Cultured Nightcrawlers: Perfect for Vermicomposting and Fishing
Nightcrawlers are the perfect vermicomposting and bait worms. These worms can grow up to 8 inches in length. Your organic scraps and matter don’t stand a chance, as they will devour anything in their path to create rich worm castings.
Characteristics of Nightcrawlers
Can grow up to 8 inches in length
Nightcrawlers grow bigger than their counterparts - red wigglers and other types of earthworms. Up to 8 inches and more in length is not uncommon for them.
Can survive warm temperatures
Schmitty’s nightcrawlers can survive warm temperatures making them ideal for vermicomposters in hot regions.
Requires no refrigeration
Most bait worms must be refrigerated to be kept alive, but not the nightcrawlers. They don’t require refrigeration making them ideal for fishing.
Reproduce very quickly
Nightcrawlers reproduce and grow more quickly than red worms. They reach sexual maturity fast and can become breeders in as little as 5 weeks. Compost twice as much Nightcrawlers compost twice as much food and/or manure scraps than other composting worms. They will literally gobble up your organic matter in less time.
Produces more worm castings in less time
Since nightcrawlers are great composters, they also produce more worm castings in less time compared to other worms such as red wigglers.
Excellent fish bait
Nightcrawlers are ideal for fishing because of their size, and because they require no refrigeration.

Benefits of Nightcrawlers
For gardens and lawns
Nightcrawlers burrow into the soil, thereby aerating the soil and allowing air and water to get to the roots of plants. As they burrow, they consume organic matter and create worm castings which are the no 1 organic fertilizer that boosts plant growth. Since they reproduce quickly, you get more nightcrawlers aerating your garden soil and boosting your garden yields in a short time.
For Composting
Nightcrawlers produce large compost in less time. They can be added to a compost bin and will help consume kitchen scraps and organic matter. While they help recycle these organic materials, they also produce rich worm castings that help plants grow bigger and healthier.
For Fishing
Nightcrawlers are ideal for fishing because of their big size. They are the fisherman’s dream come true, as you’re guaranteed to fill up your bucket with fish in no time.
